Indoor Clouds (Cloudscapes) by Tetsuo Kondo Architects + Transsolar

I were in the Architectural Biennial in Venice last week, and one of the most promising things for me to watch was this indoor clouds. But sometimes destiny plays its own way and I end up watching a room full of humidity and thats about it. Even though it wasn't the Biennial fault nor the artist, the problem is that in order to make interior clouds there must be certain conditions (stacking a warm humid layer 25º and 100%RH between a lower cool dry layer 18º and 40% RH and a higher hot dry layer of 37º and 60%RH) without these conditions clouds won't form indoors.... So the problem there was that the door was open half of the time because it is an exhibition and you can't  forbid people from moving to the next intervention in their way, and obviously it was impossible to keep the air in the proper form. But anyway I still think that it is very interesting, hopefully for the first visitors during the morning they probably had the chance to watch these spectacular cloud formations.

I am not usually the kind of person who judges from the image... But  I have to say that the external renderings of this building are seriously atmospheric (to put it one way). Might not big the best architecture but the way the perforated steel makes this building disappear from the outside (except when the shutters are open) and opens the space to the exterior is well done. The effects of the light and shadow going trough the interior, and the openness inside the houses with the simplicity it projects. The used of a second skin completely glazed...
I don't know, I just have to like it. Also the detail of the green roof treated the same way as the rest of the flats its brilliant.

I see this as a web you should be keeping an eye at least once in a while. Basically its information presented in complex graphics that simplified the way of understanding the information provided. Most of them really well done, graphically speaking and also the information that they provide is really useful.
I think it's called "data flow"

The Dutch Dialogues workshops

This is for sure clever thinking... if you are a city surrounded by water and you want to keep it that way for many years (from my point of view everything is ephemeral even if we don't want to recognize it, centuries of obsession with buildings that will stay forever is just illogical in every possible way), maybe you should look to the Netherlands... they have been fighting against water since centuries (probably since the beginning of the first shelters).

So what happened to New Orleans could have been prevented if someone had look to the Netherlands a long time ago. Obviously the French and Spanish (first colonies in Louisiana) wasn't prepared for what was surrounding the area. If the first colonies would have been from the Netherlands the history would have been different for sure...

Blok K by NL Architects

The formalization of the requirements in this building to get this unique final form is interesting enough. I like the fact that form in this case follows requirements and it's well thought too. It has a unique identity from the rest of the surrounding buildings.


"Blok k is one of three almost square blocks that measure 31 by 28 meters and should
contain 2.5 stories. it was obligatory to build the first two stories in alignment; the third
should be 50% building and 50% roof terrace/garden. in our block the volume is distributed
evenly over the ten houses; each is allocated 630m2."

"The houses are organized according to the back to back principle, to be be accessed
from an aisle in the middle of the block. this 'mini canyon' rids the facades of the obligatory
storage spaces and technical facilities that formally have to be accessible from the public
domain."


"Point of reference is the given 630m3 per dwelling. while all houses are at the same time
stretched and compressed, either in height or in length, they still maintain this original
volume. although some features of the typology remain, all houses are individual and unique
reaching from one and a half to four stories, from 132 to 185m2.  the amplitude of
the building now varies from 5 to 15 meters, but overall the average is still the required
7.5 meters. in the process the standard building bay as an organizational tool of construction
became 'elastic'."

Don't forget to watch the video, is for sure the best part. The video explains the whole construction process and I find that information to be gold!! But the whole concept is interesting, it was done for the MOMA's PS1 as a summer pavilion (They won the competition that runs each year, just similar to the Serpentine Gallery in London).
